Heather Segelhorst

VA Accredited Attorney

Commitment to Service:

As an Army veteran and military spouse, Heather is motivated to apply her legal expertise to helping fellow veterans navigate the legal intricacies of the VA claims process and ensure they receive the benefits they deserve.

Background:

Heather served in the Army as both an enlisted soldier and an officer. Following the attacks of 9/11, she felt driven to serve. She enlisted as a military intelligence specialist and served for four years, including one year in Korea and a 15-month tour as a non-commissioned officer in Baghdad, Iraq. After completing her enlistment, she returned to her home state of Illinois and used the G.I. Bill to complete her B.S. and earn her J.D. After graduation, she married her husband, a Special Forces officer, and applied to re-enter the Army as a lawyer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

Legal Journey:

As a JAG, Heather was assigned to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where she served as a Legal Assistance Attorney, Special Victim’s Counsel, and Trial Counsel with the 25th Infantry Division; Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where she served as an Administrative Law Attorney for the United States Army Special Operations Command and 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne); and finally, the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Law and taught Constitutional & Military Law to first- and second-class cadets.
